Go-Kart
Design and Manufacturing of Go-Kart (mini race car).
The aim of the project was to design and manufacture a go-kart for a national level design competition - GKDC.
I worked in the body work and wheel assembly team.
I assisted in chassis design. Started with a conventional ladder chassis design, which gave some unacceptable results for various impact tests using FEA.
Finalized a 3D frame which was rigid and lightweight.
Worked on a multiple CAD designs for the body panels. Main concern was safety of the components and ergonomics of the vehicle. Safety and comfort of the driver was also to be considered for longer drives during endurance tests.
Also designed a firewall to be placed between the engine and the driver seat. Carried out analysis for thermal loads and heat transfer to optimize the design.
Manufactured the panels using fiberglass molding. Used negative molds for better surface finish.

Constructed the first prototype to test various sub-systems.
Eventually manufactured the final Go-Kart after 6 months.
Designed and constructed fixtures to ease welding and other manufacturing processes.
Constructed a profile machine to create weldments and joints.
